Workshop "Communication Students x Tuồng: Path to the Heart"

On the afternoon of April 13th, The Faculty of International Communications and Culture organized the workshop "Communication Students x Tuồng: Path to the Heart". This is a graduation communication product aimed at helping students of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam understand more about the value of Tuồng art. Consequently, the project provides opportunities for students with a focus on communication in the cultural and artistic fields through a collaborative internship program with the Vietnam Tuồng Theatre.

The workshop was attended by Meritorious Artist Chu Quang Cường - Head of the Traditional Affairs Delegation of the Vietnam Tuồng Theatre and a member of the Arts Council of Vietnam Tuồng Theatre (2018 - present); Meritorious Artist Trần Văn Long - Deputy Head of the Traditional Affairs Delegation of Vietnam Tuồng Theatre; Ms. Bùi Yến Linh, Head of the Marketing Department, Vietnam Tuồng Theatre; and Mrs. Nguyễn Lương Diệu An - Lecturer at the Faculty of Communications and Foreign Culture (Diplomatic Academy), Specialist Advisor to the Tuồng Date project, along with nearly 200 students from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.

In the opening speech of the workshop, Mrs. Nguyễn Lương Diệu An affirmed the value of Tuồng art to the history, culture, and society of Vietnam. She also emphasized the importance of building a young communication team, trained deeply in cultural communication, to narrate new stories alongside Tuồng and convey the intriguing and attractive artistic values of Tuồng to young audiences. Additionally, Mrs. Nguyễn Lương Diệu An expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Vietnam Tuồng Theatre for their contribution and collaboration with the Tuồng Date 2024 project.

During the event, students enjoyed excerpts from the classic Tuồng play "Ngũ biến" and listened to analyses and insights shared by the actors from the Vietnam Tuồng Theatre. Through the analysis of vocal techniques, costumes, and melodies used in the performance, Meritorious Artist Chu Quang Cường highlighted the distinctive features of historical Tuồng and Tuồng from the North. Furthermore, the speakers also pointed out historically accurate details embedded in the play "Ngũ biến".

The workshop continued with a discussion session titled "Tỏ Tình - Tỏ Tuồng Discussing Old Tuồng - Contemporary Tuồng". Meritorious Artist Trần Văn Long analyzed the formation of Tuồng and the art of Chinese Opera to affirm that our country's art discipline has a long-standing development, deeply imbued with the spirit and culture of the nation. Sharing insights into the characteristics of Tuồng art, Meritorious Artist Chu Quang Cường - Head of the Traditional Affairs Delegation of the Vietnam Tuồng Theatre, demonstrated three key elements of Tuồng: symbolic significance, stylization, and symbolism.

The conversation became very lively as it transitioned to the second session, "Ghép đôi mối tình - the Youth and the Vietnam Tuồng Theatre". Ms. Yến Linh, Head of Marketing at the Vietnam Tuồng Theatre, then shared personal insights about her experiences in communication within the cultural and artistic field. Not only that, the speaker also revealed details about the Marketing - Communication Internship Program coordinated by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and the Vietnam Tuồng Theatre.

The workshop "Communication Students x Tuồng: Path to the Heart" concluded very successfully in a friendly and open atmosphere. It provided an opportunity for students both within and outside the Academy to equip themselves with essential knowledge about Tuồng art, appreciating artistic values that Tuồng brings. As a result, the project helps students gain more motivation to engage in communication activities and promote traditional Tuồng performing arts, as well as continue to pursue culture and arts Communication in the future.
