On August 14, 2025, in Hanoi, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and the National Institute for South China Sea Studies of China co-hosted an academic dialogue entitled “25 Years of the Gulf of Tonkin Delimitation Agreement: Lessons Learned and Prospects for Bilateral Maritime Cooperation.” This Track II dialogue convened by the two leading research institutions on the East Sea (South China Sea) from both countries, aimed to review the negotiation and delimitation process of the Gulf of Tonkin, foster mutual trust, and explore new avenues for bilateral maritime cooperation.
