On the morning of 21 November 2025, as part of his official visit to Viet Nam from 18 to 22 November 2025, President of the Senate of the Czech Republic Milos Vystrcil and a high-level delegation of the Czech Senate paid a working visit to the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam. The delegation witnessed the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the diplomatic academies of the two countries and President Vystrcil delivered a speech on Viet Nam – Czech relations entitled “Tuy xa mà gần” (“Though Far, Yet Close”).

On behalf of the leadership of the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam, Dr Nguyễn Thị Thìn, Vice President of the DAV, warmly welcomed President of the Senate Milos Vystrcil and the delegation to the DAV, in the context of the two countries celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The Vice President stressed that the visit affirms the importance that the leadership of the Czech Republic attaches to cooperation with Viet Nam in education and training, and opens up many new opportunities for cooperation in diplomatic training, research and people-to-people exchanges.

In her introduction of the DAV, the Vice President noted that, with nearly 70 years of establishment and development, the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam is a leading institution for training, capacity-building and research in external relations in Viet Nam, and is striving to become a prestigious educational and training institution in the region. The DAV considers the expansion of international cooperation a strategic pillar in its training and research activities.

In that spirit, the Vice President affirmed that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the diplomatic academies of Viet Nam and the Czech Republic is an important milestone, creating a foundation for the implementation of cooperation programmes on the exchange of teaching methods, sharing of practical experience, and the strengthening of exchanges among students, lecturers and researchers. The Vice President emphasized that the Czech Republic has strong advantages in education, science and technology, and engineering, and has trained tens of thousands of Vietnamese students, many of whom now serve as important bridges in bilateral relations. Cooperation between the two Academies is expected to help further leverage this resource and deepen education and training cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ms Dana Kovarikova, President of the Diplomatic Academy of the Czech Republic, highly valued the role and reputation of the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam in training and research on external affairs. She stated that, in a world marked by complex changes, stronger cooperation among diplomatic training institutions is especially important, as it helps equip the young generation of diplomats with solid knowledge, comprehensive skills and multi-dimensional thinking.

Right after the signing ceremony, President of the Senate Milos Vystrcil delivered a speech on Viet Nam – Czech relations, themed “Though Far, Yet Close”, and held an exchange with students of the Academy. He underlined that, although geographically distant, Viet Nam and the Czech Republic share many similarities in their history of struggle for independence and freedom, as well as in their common aspirations for peace, development and prosperity. He affirmed that the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic is an inseparable part of Czech society and plays an important bridging role in promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

The exchange session attracted a large number of students of the DAV, with many questions focusing on scholarship and study opportunities in the Czech Republic, the role of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting bilateral relations, and orientations for cooperation between the two countries in the new context. Through the open exchanges, the DAV’s students had an opportunity to directly hear the views of a senior parliamentary leader, enrich their practical knowledge and nurture their inspiration for the diplomatic profession.

As part of the delegation’s visit, Vice President Nguyễn Thị Thìn also had a courtesy meeting with Ms Dana Kovarikova, President of the Diplomatic Academy of the Czech Republic. In an open and trustful atmosphere, the two sides discussed priority areas of cooperation in the time ahead, such as student and faculty exchanges, co-organization of seminars and academic workshops, and short-term training programmes for diplomatic officials. The two sides agreed that, on the basis of the MoU, they would quickly develop specific implementation plans to ensure that cooperation becomes deeper, more substantive and suited to the needs of both sides./.
