On the afternoon of December 19th 2021, the Faculty of Communication and External Foreign Affairs held an online talk show for students to interact with Mr. The Cuong - Editor from People's Police Television and international makeup artist Quan Bee in order to help them better understand the work of a TV editor. The talk show also had the participation of Ms. Mai Anh Thu, lecturer of Master of Ceremonies skill, editor from People's Television.

Appearance is never enough

According to Mr. The Cuong, many people in real life are Misters and Misses, but in a close-up, they are not suitable. The key point when considering an editor's appearance is that the face is harmonious; their eyes, nose, and mouth must be balanced.

Also sharing about appearance, Quan Bee, a makeup artist revealed the principles that must be kept in mind when beautifying. He said more than three colors should never be on the face, and at the same time, an editor always prepares a tube of sunscreen, a set of makeup brushes and appropriate foundation cream. The guests also did not hesitate to share the secrets to overcome oily skin by using powder and tissue.

“Once you become an editor, you may not understand anything deeply, but when it comes to any fields, you must know them”. - Editor The Cuong confirmed. Moreover, editors of the 21st century are not only "speaking machines", but also have a certain level of knowledge as well as producing pieces of news.

The secret behind the frame

Contrary to what many people think, an editor's job is not that simple. Quan Bee said that the studio always has a lot of lights that gives off a lot of heat, including UVA and UVB rays that cause skin damage. To overcome this, an editor must always use sunscreen while on air, at the same time, constantly hydrate the skin and eat a lot of green vegetables.

Mr. The Cuong also said his job requires to withstand time pressure. Due to the nature of the profession, an editor's schedule may go against usual hours, so people working in this industry must always prepare good health. He also reminded the students that they must exercise regularly, go to bed before 11 p.m to avoid deterioration of health.

After hearing about the secrets of the editors' careers, a student namely Nguyen Hoa An shared: "I didn't think an MC would face so many difficulties, the stories of the two speakers made me appreciate the work of the editors more than ever”.

Are you ready for casting?

Through questions from the students, Editor The Cuong also mentioned a few requirements when participating in a casting at television stations. The first factor is proper clothes. If participating in a casting for economic news, the candidate should not wear Ao dai, but instead wear fresh and dynamic clothes. He explained that the right outfit also builds confidence for the presenter.

Moreover, he also said that the candidate also has to equip himself with necessary hosting skills, such as news reading techniques, word releasing techniques, etc. This helps the candidates not to fall into awkwardness in the studio.

Finally, he confided: "We have been in the profession for more than 10 years, but every day we face different situations." Therefore, editors in general and casting participants in particular must be equipped with ingenuity and flexibility to be ready to handle the situation.

The talk show was led by the students in the Master of Ceremonies class, this is the first opportunity for students to consolidate what they have learned and apply them to real situations, creating a premise for future work.

Speaking after the talk show, lecturer Mai Anh Thu said: “I was very touched because you guys did so well, better than I expected. You guys are extremely confident and control the show”. At the same time, Ms. Anh Thu also thanked the the Faculty and the two guests who contributed significantly to the success of the program.

As one of the students participating in leading the talk show, student Nguyen Quang Hien shared excitedly: “On behalf of all students in the MC class, we appreciate teachers for creating conditions for us to try our best with a new role. We hope that one day we will become professional editors and give all our best”.
