History and Development

The Chinese Language Faculty originated as a team within the Foreign Language Department. To meet the needs of diplomatic work, Chinese language instruction began at the DAV from its very first course (1985 - 1988).

Since then, the Faculty has undergone a remarkable journey, becoming one of the leading faculties at the DAV in training and research on Chinese language, culture, and society. The Faculty's lecturers not only excel in teaching and scientific research but also actively engage in Track II Diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges. Generations of students from the Faculty have gradually become key officials, holding important positions in agencies within and outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Students in the Faculty benefit from a comprehensive academic environment, with regular opportunities to participate in seminars on learning and research. They receive support through various scholarship programs and participate in training through major competitions related to Chinese language and culture.

Notable Achievements

- In 2019, the Faculty was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Foreign Affairs for its outstanding achievements from 2016 to 2018, contributing to the development of the diplomatic sector.

- Faculty members have participated in compiling numerous textbooks and materials for students.

- The Faculty directly organizes and guides many competitions and exchange activities related to Chinese language and culture within the DAV.

- Students have achieved high results in Chinese language competitions: Second Prize in the "Chinese Character Dictation Contest" organized by the Confucius Institute at Hanoi University (2020), Second Prize in the "National Chinese Speaking Contest - Da Nang" (2023), and Second Prize in the "Chinese Debate Competition" organized by the University of Foreign Trade (2023).

- The Faculty effectively acts as a focal point connecting the DAV with the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam in establishing the Chinese Reading Room and Research Center on China (2021) and awarding annual Vietnam-China Friendship Scholarships to the DAV students.

- The Faculty continuously trains, selects, and sends lecturers and students to participate and present at scientific conferences and seminars, as well as friendly exchange competitions.

Training and Teaching Activities

The Faculty provides students with a comprehensive foundation in fundamental and specialized knowledge, enabling them to build a solid language foundation relevant to their field of study. In terms of fundamental knowledge, students are equipped with listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Chinese to meet the needs of communication and exchange with native speakers. Regarding specialized knowledge, students are provided with knowledge in various fields such as Chinese history, economics, culture, society, and diplomacy. They enhance their ability to understand the news, develop translation and interpretation skills, and practice language conversion through speeches and press interviews with Vietnamese and Chinese leaders.

The Chinese Language Faculty comprises highly qualified lecturers with rigorous and specialized training from prestigious universities in Vietnam and abroad. Moreover, the Faculty's lecturers possess extensive practical experience, with many having served terms at Vietnamese embassies and consulates general abroad.
