International Scientific Conference on “Multidisciplinary Approaches to the Study of History and International Relations in the XX – XXI Centuries: Perspectives of Vietnamese and French Scholars”

On February 20th, 2024, an International Scientific Conference was held on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-France diplomatic relations. The theme of the conference was “Multidisciplinary Approaches to the Study of History and International Relations in the XX – XXI Centuries: Perspectives of Vietnamese and French Scholars”. The conference was held by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the Paul-Valéry University Montpellier 3 (UPVM3).

From the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thin, Deputy Director (presiding over the delegation), delivered the opening remarks. The conference received more than 40 discourses from leading historians and international relations experts from universities and research institutes in Vietnam, France, the United States, and other countries. With diverse perspectives, the conference discourses explored a wide range of aspects in historical and international relations research, including introductory speeches and papers from Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam lecturers: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hanh, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Van Quang, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Nhu Thanh, MA. Pham Thi Thanh Huyen, MA. Vuong Thi Thanh Thuy, Dr. Le Thi Ngoc Han, MA. Pham Thanh Tung, and more.

The conference brought together leading scientists, historians, and international relations experts from universities and research institutes in Vietnam, France, and several other countries, along with a large number of young researchers, postgraduate students, and Vietnamese and French PhD students to exchange and share approaches and research methods in history and international relations, thereby enhancing mutual academic understanding and sharing between scholars in the two countries.

In the evening of the same day, a reception was held at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam following the Conference, welcoming the leading scientists, historians, and international relations experts from universities and research institutes in a close and cohesive atmosphere.

With in-depth and meticulous research by scholars from Vietnam and foreign countries, the Conference contributes to systematizing and updating theories, approaches, and research methods in history and international relations in the 20th and 21st centuries, especially new research methods such as transnational history, global history, environmental history, world order, economic diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, soft power, etc. At this Conference, scientists also suggested new research directions, new research methods and innovative research thinking in the field of history and international relations, thereby promoting cooperation in science, technology and historical education between Vietnam and France./.
