

Welcoming Ambassador James Nickel to the DAV, President Nguyen Hung Son extended his warm congratulations on the Ambassador’s assumption of office in Viet Nam and conveyed his best wishes for a successful and fulfilling tenure. The President provided an overview of the Academy, reaffirming the DAV’s readiness to further strengthen exchanges and deepen collaboration with the Embassy of Canada. He also highlighted a number of recent academic cooperation initiatives between the two sides, and cordially invited the Ambassador to attend upcoming international conferences and seminars hosted by the Academy. President Nguyen Hung Son expressed his appreciation for Canada’s scholarship, training, and educational cooperation programs for Viet Nam, and emphasized the Academy’s strong interest in expanding cooperation, particularly in developing high-quality human resources.
Ambassador James Nickel, for his part, underscored Canada’s recognition of Viet Nam’s strategic role and ASEAN’s significance, while commending Viet Nam’s impressive socio-economic development achievements. The Ambassador observed that Canada and Viet Nam are jointly addressing common challenges, including energy transition and digital transformation, which in turn open up new avenues for cooperation. Ambassador Nickel also shared that Canada has recently formed a new government and that the Canadian Prime Minister is expected to make his first overseas visit in October. He expressed the hope that the leaders of the two countries would have the opportunity to meet in person in the near future, and extended a cordial invitation to President Nguyen Hung Son to visit Canada and participate in forthcoming international conferences.

The meeting was held in a warm, friendly, and constructive atmosphere, contributing to the consolidation and further expansion of ties between the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam and the Embassy of Canada, while making a positive contribution to advancing the Comprehensive Partnership between Viet Nam and Canada, particularly in the fields of education, science, and diplomacy./.
