The President of The Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste visits the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and engages in dialogue with youth and students
On August 2nd, a reception and dialogue were held at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam between the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and Vietnamese youth. This event marked a significant step forward in the diplomatic relations between the two nations, providing a valuable opportunity for the younger generation of Vietnam to meet and interact directly with a head of state, thereby gaining practical insights into international relations.
Participating in the program, on the side of the Delegation from the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, was President Jose Ramos-Horta along with senior officials. On the Vietnamese side, the event was graced by the presence of Mr. Do Hung Viet, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam; Ambassador Dr. Pham Lan Dung, Acting Director of the Diplomatic Academy; and the entire staff, faculty, and students from the affiliated agencies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Academy.
In her opening remarks, Ambassador Dr. Pham Lan Dung highlighted President Jose Ramos-Horta’s significant contributions to promoting peace, justice, and equality worldwide. She expressed the Diplomatic Academy's honour in welcoming the President. She also stated that the Dialogue at the Diplomatic Academy serves as an opportunity to reaffirm Vietnam’s commitment to training the future generation of diplomats, thereby contributing to the increasingly robust and stable cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Timor-Leste.
In his speech, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet expressed profound respect for the heroic, resilient, and indomitable history of the Timor-Leste people, as well as President Jose Ramos-Horta's far-reaching vision for elevating the nation's position on the world stage in recent times. In particular, with Timor-Leste in the process of joining ASEAN, the Deputy Minister affirmed Vietnam’s goodwill in accompanying, sustaining, and strengthening the strategic bilateral relationship with Timor-Leste to build a peaceful, prosperous, and developed Southeast Asia.
President Jose Ramos-Horta expressed his deep admiration for Vietnam, its people, and President Ho Chi Minh. He affirmed that the two countries will continue to strengthen their friendly relations and develop sustainably. The President also noted that Timor-Leste is currently focusing on choosing peaceful solutions to resolve conflicts and maintaining positive relationships with countries around the world. Consequently, he believes that Timor-Leste will not only continue to sustain and stabilize its own peace but also actively contribute to building a connected international community, sharing common values of peace and development.
In the dialogue with youth and students, President Jose Ramos-Horta highlighted the significance of strategic collaboration with Vietnam in areas such as agricultural advancement, food security and poverty alleviation. Additionally, he urged the younger generation to continuously pursue learning, enhance their skills, safeguard shared resources, and leverage cutting-edge technology to foster a more progressive and refined society.
At the closing of the program, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet reiterated Vietnam's admiration for Timor-Leste's determination in its quest to join the ASEAN community. He underscored Vietnam's readiness to engage in collaborative efforts and exchange valuable insights with Timor-Leste. Furthermore, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed Vietnam's unwavering and enduring support for Timor-Leste's pursuit of peace, equality, and shared prosperity, highlighting the importance of close cooperation with regional partners to foster a united, resilient, and sustainable ASEAN community.
