On the afternoon of May 23, as part of the Viet Nam Summer School 2025 program co-organized by Hue University and Utah Valley University (U.S.), the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam (DAV) welcomed a delegation of students from Utah Valley University for a visit and participation in a lecture titled “Viet Nam’s foreign policy and its relations with major powers.” The lecture was delivered by Ambassador Đặng Đình Quý, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, former President of the DAV, and former Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations.

The event was attended by representatives from DAV’s External Relations Division, the International School of Hue University, as well as professors and lecturers from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of History, and Department of Political Science at Utah Valley University.

In an open and academic atmosphere, Ambassador Đặng Đình Quý shared many profound and practical insights into the theoretical foundations and the historical evolution of Viet Nam's foreign policy, especially the major shifts since the country adopted the Đổi mới (Renovation) policy in 1986. His lecture was enriched with valuable historical documents, vivid images, and personal anecdotes from his diplomatic career.

The U.S. students were particularly engaged with the Ambassador's candid remarks, ranging from personal experiences to his analysis of the strategies of global powers and Viet Nam’s consistent yet flexible approach to managing international relations in an uncertain world. The discussion session was lively, featuring many thoughtful questions on public diplomacy, the future orientation of Viet Nam’s foreign policy, and the bilateral relationship between Viet Nam and the United States.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Võ Thị Kim Thảo, a representative of the International School of Hue University, expressed sincere thanks to Ambassador Đặng Đình Quý and the DAV for organizing such a meaningful and insightful lecture for the student delegation. She also conveyed hopes for more academic exchange programs between Vietnamese and U.S. students and lecturers in the future, contributing to mutual understanding and enhanced educational cooperation between the two countries./.
