Event Recap: Seminar on Innovations in English Language Teaching Methods and Applied Linguistics Research

On May 30, 2025, the English Faculty of Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam proudly hosted the seminar “Innovations in English Language Teaching Methods and Applied Linguistics Research.” The event brought together educators, researchers, and students to exchange ideas and showcase recent academic developments in English teaching and linguistics.

The seminar opened with welcoming remarks by Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Lien, Dean of the English Faculty, followed by a program overview delivered by MC Pham Hai Nam.

The first session featured a series of insightful presentations:

- Ms. Giang Thanh Tra and Ms. Nguyen Minh Trang explored the integration of AI literacy among English lecturers at DAV.

- Ms. Do Nguyen Thi Thanh Luong discussed the hierarchical relations of grammatical units and their implications for teaching writing.

- Ms. Do Hai Ha examined memory training in consecutive interpreting, using English major students at DAV as a case study.

- Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Lien shared her perspective on English teaching methods and their practical applications.

Following a short break and Q&A, the second session delved into critical discourse analysis and translation studies:

- Pham Thi Ngoc Diep analyzed linguistic legitimation in The Da Vinci Code.

- Tran Nam Huong compared ideological contrasts in the 2024 UN speeches by Israeli and Palestinian leaders.

- Ta Mai Linh explored national interests and American leadership in U.S. political discourse.

- Nguyen Ngoc Quyen presented on loss and gain in literary translation, using stylistic devices from I See Yellow Flowers in the Green Grass by Nguyen Nhat Anh.

Each presentation was followed by engaging Q&A sessions, sparking meaningful dialogues between speakers and attendees.

The event concluded with a closing ceremony led by Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Lien, who expressed her gratitude to all participants and distributed certificates to student contributors.

This seminar not only showcased cutting-edge research but also fostered a vibrant academic community, paving the way for future collaboration and innovation in language education.
